Characteristics

Natural bee propolis is a resinous mixture that bees produce by combining their own saliva and wax with exudate substances they collect from tree buds, sap flows, and other botanical sources. The color of propolis is usually a dark brown color.

Properties

This therapeutic substance not only protects hives against intruders, but can also defend the body and treat all types of health conditions. Bees use it to cover their hives, sealing small cracks and gaps. This is extremely important because if these openings are not sealed correctly the hive could have invaders and thus prevent disease. It is made up of hundreds of components, among which resins, waxes, pollen, flavonoids, mineral salts, essential oils and vitamins stand out.

Benefits

  • Respiratory conditions. It has antibiotic, anti-flu, anti-inflammatory and anesthetic effects.
  • Very effective in treating common colds, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis and mouth sores. It acts as a protector of the throat and vocal cords.
  • Improves fertility: One study examined the effects of supplementation on women with infertility and mild endometriosis. The researchers found that taking it at a dose of 500 milligrams twice a day for six months resulted in a pregnancy rate of 60% compared to only 20% in the placebo group. Studies have not yet been able to show whether propolis can also benefit infertile women without endometriosis.
  • It has antitumor and anticancer properties.
  • Lowers blood pressure: Nitric oxide is a very important substance for healthy hearts. The inner lining of blood vessels uses nitric oxide to cause the surrounding smooth muscles to relax, resulting in vasodilation and increased blood flow. Reduced nitric oxide bioavailability plays an important role in the development of high blood pressure.
  • Promotes stress and sports performance: It is so full of antioxidants that they can be useful for athletes, as they protect athletes from overheating. An active ingredient in propolis known as caffeic acid phenethyl ester triggers a broad spectrum of biological activities such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral. Heat stress is considered to be the primary factor underlying the early fatigue and dehydration observed during prolonged exercise in the heat.
  • Helps treat bone diseases: Helps build and maintain healthy bone tissue. Propolis could be a potential treatment for bone diseases such as osteoporosis.
  • Helps treat allergies; An amazing benefit is its ability to calm the symptoms of seasonal allergies. For external use, it has healing, disinfectant and anti-inflammatory capacity, making it optimal for wounds, burns, fungi, chilblains, acne, cases of psoriasis and skin conditions in general.
  • Beneficial for oral health due to its antiseptic, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory principles. Prevents the formation of cavities and bacterial plaque.
  • It slows down and prevents cellular oxidation, which causes aging and other diseases.
